A word of introduction about your farmers; we are the Willox Family - Chad & Evie with our three kids Anna, Leland and Tanner. We love to ranch and we love to ski! We are tucked away on an amazing piece of land in the middle of three mountain ranges about 20 minutes North of Golden, BC in Kicking Horse Country. The Central Main Range is our backyard, and the Selkirk and Monashee Ranges are our front yard. Needless to say, it’s quiet out here. If there are no clouds at night we can see the Milky Way. Out here on the ranch, the serenity and wonder of microscopic flora and fauna to the vastness of the stars, make it a place where you can be still and hear the quietness of your soul. We have winter wonderland amounts of snow - on average nearly 12 feet. The snow rarely has any melt cycle in the winter because Chinook conditions, like our Albertan friends to the East, don't occur here.
We are twelve years into our journey to bring back the economically viable, small scale and sustainable family farm. This year we are ramping up production considerably. The key is our direct to consumer model. The average industrial farmer only retains a gross of $0.05 per grocery store dollar spent. A direct to consumer model means we wear a lot of hats. But, each middle man we take out of the process means the farm is that much more viable. There is definitely some creativity and new strategies required because of the amount of snow we get, but this is a rewarding journey, not only for our family but our surrounding communities as well. With so many scandals arising out of the industrial food system, there is an increasing excitement and demand for local and sustainable food production. This means there has never been a better time to enter the industry!
We consider ourselves customer certified - meaning we are transparent and open for you to visit our farm and see anything. You can ask us any pointed question and you will have an honest answer. We have already had many successes and plenty of failures, but we are pursuing our dream of bringing you sustainably raised food with most of our spare energy! We hope you'll partner with us in this journey!!
